Improving bowel screening uptake in global majority communities

Understanding and removing the barriers that stop people taking up life-saving screening.

Improving bowel screening uptake in global majority communities

The challenge

Screening rates were persistently low across East London communities, and existing outreach wasn't closing the gap.

What we did

We worked with community researchers who shared language and lived experience to understand the practical and cultural barriers, then co-designed videos that spoke to them directly.

The outcome

We gained a clear, actionable picture of what was holding people back, and a tested approach for reaching these communities with respect and clarity. Our work was presented at this year's NIHR Working Together Conference.
